Ostara (around 21 March)

Welcome to the Spring Equinox, which occurs between twenty and twenty-two in March, and is considered by many as the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. In Neopaganism Ostara (Eostre old in early times) is the celebration, exaltation of spring growth, new life arises after the cold winter months. Ostara's name may derive from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre, though this is not known with certainty.

Spring appears just when nature begins to awaken from their winter slumber, and the green shoots first appear. Ostara is a new life and, consequently, their beginnings. The animals come out of hibernation, birds begin to build their nests and the males of all species begin to mark their territory with force. In general, people also began to feel more fresh and energetic, and the nights start to become more intense while it starts to get warm.

The Full Moon of Spring that has been called for some traditionalists, the "Luna Despierta." This is the time of the cosmic tides change. We went from the destructive tide that has ruled the winter months for a flood of planting. It is a time for a fresh start on a personal level, magical and spiritual, and sow the seeds to be harvested later this year. It is the moment when the young god with a ram's head, the cornigera, is complemented by the Full Moon Maiden (Maiden). Is the spring equinox when the sun enters the sign of Aries the ram, the symbol of male lust, the primitive force that comes to life and the experience of aging.

The Spring Equinox was Christianized as Easter, and is known as the festival of mourning. Celebrates the death and resurrection of Jesus. The Church in its early days almost Celtic, originally celebrated Passover at the same time as Passover. This clearly reflects the fact that the first Christian church in Jerusalem was founded after the famous crucifixion, punctuated and followed by many of the Jewish traditions. The Church of Rome decreed that Easter would be the first Sunday after the full moon following the Spring Equinox.

Many beliefs and pagan symbols survived the Christian celebration of Easter (as in most other Sabbaths). This is the most obvious as the name itself is believed to come from the West or Germanic goddess Eostre, Lady of Spring and the Dawn. She was the daughter of Jordan, also known as Mother Earth, in Germanic mythology. His cult was so important that the word "estrogen" comes precisely from its name: the eggs are a sign of inexhaustible fertility. Estrogens, hormones that control the production of eggs in women, are so named in his honor. still in the nineteenth century, and certainly very late date, young people in Germany continued to create high honor that covered the Easter flowers.

Other symbols of Easter are the Easter Bunny or the Easter Rabbit, Easter Egg rolls and hot cross shape with four sides. All of them are also powerful pre-Christian symbols. The hare was sacred to Nerthus, Freya and Eostre, so no wonder it is also associated with an animal that changed shape and were associated with witches. Today is an important totem in the neo-paganism. In the past, at Easter, the traditional dish was mainly with rabbits. Some people, however, refused to even touch it because, in ancient tradition and according to the railway, was considered very bad luck to eat or kill hares.

The Easter Bunny is, of course, a modern version of the hare and too obvious a symbol of fertility and spring. As a symbol and curiosity, in Cornwall could be found based on old images associated with the hares and Traditionalism as survival of ancient times. Here you can see it perfectly:

This symbol famous symbol of three hares or rabbits deosil three can be found at the Church of Widecombe, enDevon. There are others like this in many churches in Dartmoor, originally built or restored by the owners of the local mines. The symbol has been variously attributed as an alchemical symbol, a pagan symbol of the Moon Goddess, and closely associated with witches. More information: http://www.widecombe-in-the-moor.com/

The Easter Egg is the quintessential symbol of fertility, birth and new life that is celebrated in all the rites of Spring. Many ancient myths of creation lives on, and are based on the birth of the universe itself through a great Cosmic Egg. The egg is also from ancient principles, closely associated with witches. In fact, an old traditionalist spell indicates that the egg yolk was used for divination by the yolk, as well as replacement of certain sacrifices that went against the fundamental ethics. It was also used, and very popular in spellcasting.

The traditional bread that is given to food among millions of Christians on Good Friday has its roots in cakes and breads Roman bakers created this day as an offering to the Moon Goddess Diana. Its distinctive crossover design represents the four phases of the moon. The offerings of these rolls were made also, occasionally, Hecate and were buried at crossroads (sacred places of Hecate). Some traditional witches carry a four-armed cross within a circle instead of the famous pentacle. This cross is a multifaceted symbol that can represent the sun, moon, or the four elements and all it contains is protected by the circle around it. In this cross today, it is popularly known as Solar Cross.

This is a very powerful moment for Magic, not only for the balance of earth energies, but by the way our self echoes the same changes. We are literally reborn, emerging from our winter sleep, ready to participate in all the pleasures of the land and to address the challenges facing the world changes around us every day. Unfortunately, we have found that Mother Earth is complaining and he has done in the most terrible plague Japan. More information on how to help:
